Discover the authenticity of the Algarve through a visit to the only artisanal fish cannery that is left in the western Algarve. An industry that gave thousands of people jobs in the area from 1853 onwards before the industrial manufacturing took over.
Together with an exclusive, guided road trip along the coastline towards the west coast, this experience will give you plenty of wow! We will visit one of the most “forgotten” fortresses in the Algarve that provided protection to the fishing industry when the pirates threatened the coastline. Here, we will also enjoy a luxury picnic with coffee, fruit and local pastries at a breathtaking view before we visit a golden beach between magic cliffs.
This small factory, Conserveira Do Arade, outside Portimao have preserved the original handicraft of exceptional quality sardines. The factory tour provide an engaging premium experience where you will have the opportunity to get up close with the production process of the delicious artisanal fish preserves.
During the visit, you will be guided through the production line by the owner, with detailed explanations of each stage and direct interaction with the staff.
Among a lot of other interesting knowledge, you will learn about the difference between a cheap sardine and a quality sardine. The answer hides in the sea.
After the guided tour, you will be served a tasting of several flavoured sardines, homemade bread, olives, wine and more Algarvian delicacies. If you think you don’t like sardines, give it a new chance and you will be surprised.
